Mission Statement

Bear Hugs for Babies, Inc. is a tax-exempt, non-profit charity dedicated to helping newborns who suffer from homelessness, extreme poverty, or disease by providing them with the fundamental items essential for a bright start in this world.

Started by Philip W. Brown in April 2001, Bear Hugs for Babies is a 501(c)3 charity who’s current focus is helping newborns in Lower Delaware. With the help of our volunteers throughout the Eastern Region, we have been able to provide assistance to hundreds of newborns since our inception.

The newborns we help and their families are diverse and come from many different situations. Some are families that have fallen on hard times because of job loss or lack of health insurance. Others are single moms or dads struggling to make ends meet or trying to finish their education so they can better support their families. And then there are the grandparents or aunts and uncles on a fixed income who suddenly find themselves raising a family member’s newborn. It’s not how they got here that concerns us, but where they go from here. We exist to make their path a little easier.

Assistance has been provided to newborns from Beebe Medical Center, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Bayhealth Medical Center, Georgetown Crisis Center, Christiana Care, Children’s Choice, Georgetown Wellness Center, La Red Health Center and the Department of Health, as well as other local hospitals, organizations, and churches.

Public and private donations, corporate appeals, and various fundraisers provide funds to purchase necessary items and supplies.
