“Bear Hugs meets the needs of our moms and babies in
Southern Delaware”
I would like to just take a moment and share with you one of our greatest resources in Southern Delaware. Bear Hugs for Babies is a non-profit organization that raises support for the disadvantaged pregnant moms and their babies in Sussex County. The moms are referred to Bear Hugs through the hospitals, clinics, and various social services agencies throughout southern DE. Once the referral is received, Bear Hugs will make up a special basket with many newborn essential items such a diapers, wipes, receiving blankets, onesies, bathing items, bottles and sleepers. Someone from Bear Hugs delivers the basket to the hospital or home of the individual. As you can imagine this is a nice surprise to the new mommy and the much needed items are quickly put to use. Bear Hugs operates strictly by donation so any support you can offer will certainly be put to good use.
I want to personally thank Bear Hugs for meeting the needs of our moms and babies in Southern Delaware, and thank you community member for supporting this endeavor.

We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the services Bear Hugs for Babies provides to pregnant women who receive services through our Prenatal Program. The baskets full of infant clothing, toys, and supplies are a welcome gift to low-income women who are unable to afford many of these items.
As you know, the mission of La Red Health Center is to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate, high quality, cost-effective primary and preventative medical care to all residents of Sussex County who are uninsured, underinsured (those with high annual deductibles or catastrophic policy limits), or who face other barriers to medical care. Our overarching goal is to reduce the disparities often experienced by these vulnerable individuals.
La Red Health Center offers comprehensive medical services for the full life continuum either through direct care or referrals. La Red Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center and, as such, is the only community health center of its kind in Sussex County. Our close collaboration with numerous state and local partners facilitates health care access for the underserved through a coordinated delivery system.
Approximately two-thirds of the patients we serve live at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. We applaud your compassion and efforts to improve the overall birth outcomes for our women through your continued donations of supplies and clothing.
